Penny Marshall Tributes: Celebrities React to Penny Marshall’s Death

Acclaimed actress and director Penny Marshall has passed away at the age of 75-years-old.

Marshall passed away in her Hollywood Hills, California home on Monday, December 17 from complications due to diabetes. In addition to her iconic role of Laverne DeFazio on the ABC sitcom Laverne & Shirley, which aired from 1976 to 1983Marshall was the director of Big, Awakenings, and A League of Their Own. Marshall is survived by her sister Ronny, her daughter Tracy Reiner, and her grandchildren Spencer, Bella, and Viva.

Following her passing, celebrities of all sorts have publicly expressed their feelings for the late Laverne & Shirley actress.

Olivia Munn said: “Penny Marshall was one of the most important trailblazers. Her comedic talents brought success & fame, but she truly broke the mold w her directing- Big, Awakenings, A League of Their Own- becoming the first woman to direct a movie that grossed $100+ mil. Rest in peace, PM.”

Longtime actor and comedian Billy Crystal tweeted: “Sad to hear of Penny Marshall’s passing. a great comedienne a terrific director and a dear friend.”

Pitch Perfect actress Elizabeth Banks said on Twitter: “I loved her SO MUCH. Sending love to her family.”

Finding Nemo actor and comedian Albert Brooks said: “R.I.P. Penny Marshall. So talented and funny. A big loss.”
