Just over one week ago, on Saturday, December 8, Brian Ortega received a brutal beating at the hands of UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 231. Ortega’s face was a bloody, swollen mess and doctors were forced to intervene and call an end to the fight after four rounds. The fight with Holloway earned each fighter a $50,000 bonus for Fight of the Night.
If you don’t remember what Ortega looked like after the fight, here is a look:
Pretty gnarly, right?
Well, it may be hard to believe, but just ten days later Ortega is already nearly 100 percent healed. Ortega shared an update of his injuries in a post on social media which read: “And just like that I’m back. One week is all need. Can’t keep a good man down.”
Check it out:
Of course, Ortega is still going to be forced to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future despite his face getting back to normal.
Following the event, the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the regulating body that looked over the pay-per-view at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, issued its medical suspensions and Ortega was hit with a 180-day lay-off unless he is medically cleared.
That means it could be at least six months until we see Ortega look to bounce back from the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts career, but it is good to see that he is recovering quickly.
