The Baltimore County Fire Department has said that hazmat units responded to two different synagogues after suspicious packages were found.
Additionally, EMS units responded to the scenes. While no injuries were reported, two adults were evacuated by EMS for mild symptoms after they opened an envelope. However, while the two adults were evacuated, they have not been transported to the hospital at the time of this writing.
The first of the suspicious package was reported at the Beth El School in Pikesville, Maryland. The second was found at Mesivta Ne’imus HaTorah, which is also located in the 4300 block of Crest Heights Road in Pikesville. Baltimore County Fire officials clarified that the suspicious package, which was an envelope, was sent to synagogue’s offices and not the Beth El School.
After a search of the synagogues, the Baltimore County Fire Department stated that they did not find any dangerous substances and that no injuries were reported. Hazmat crews scanned the buildings with chemical meters and did not detect anything “significant.”
According to CBS 13 Baltimore, 33 staff members and 78 children remained in the school following the report of the suspicious package, as they were not deemed to be in any danger.
The reports of suspicious packages being found at synagogues in Pikesville, Marlyand, is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, suspicious packages, and active shootings that have plagued the United States.
The Baltimore County Fire Department said on Twitter that all-clear was given at both scenes at 4:14 p.m. EST.
