Miss Universe is an annual international beauty pageant that airs in more than 190 countries worldwide and seen by more than half a billion people annually. The pageant was first televised in 1955 by CBS and was purchased by Donald Trump in 1996. In June 2015, NBC canceled Miss Universe due to controversial statements he made illegal immigrants who crossed the border from Mexico. It was then sold to IMG.
The Miss Universe Organization and brand, as well as Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, are owned by the WME/IMG talent agency.
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will be passing down the crown, as she was the Miss Universe winner in 2017.
