There has been an active shooter situation at Dennis Intermediate School in Richmond, Indiana. At this time, the school building is secure and the only victim is the alleged shooter, who is dead. A large police presence responded at the time of the report, as the Richmond Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police were all on the scene.
The Indiana State Police announced on Twitter that one teen is dead as a result of a shooting at Dennis Intermediate School. The school posted to its Facebook account around 8:40 a.m. local to announce that all school buildings were on lockdown.
At this time, the identity of the teenager who was killed has yet to be confirmed.
“Shooting at Dennis Middle School, Richmond, IN, in Wayne Co. has resulted in the death of the teenage suspect. No other students reported to be injured. @ISPPendleton Sgt. John Bowling will arrive shortly and will update media on where to meet for more info.”
The school had said in a brief statement: “All students at Dennis Intermediate school are safe. Only the suspect is injured.”
In addition to the multiple branches of law enforcement on the scene, Reid Health trauma services were on hand in case the shooting became a “mass casualty” situation.
