Usually when police officers respond to noise complaints, they’ll bust some balls and threaten a couple fines before ultimately leaving as long as the volume is turned down. Sometimes, if they’re feeling particularly grumpy that day, or the party got relatively out of hand, they’ll write a summons and tax your wallet a little bit.

But rarely, if ever, do they just kick it to play some video games. Well, since apparently anything goes in 2018, that’s exactly what happened up in St. Paul, Minnesota.

According to police records, the St. Paul officers were called to the apartment on University Avenue on Friday, December 9, around 10:30 p.m., responding to a neighbor’s complaints of a noise disturbance. However, once they saw that the noise was simply a couple of friends hanging out and playing Super Smash Bros. they decided to join in themselves.

Twitter user @JoviJenovi — real name Jovante M. Williams — posted an 11-second-long video of the moment on Twitter on Sunday, December 9.

“SO NEIGHBORS CALLED THE COPS ON US AND NOW WE FIGHTING THEM… … IN SMASH BROS.,” the tweet read.

via Twin Cities Pioneer Press:

Officers Isaac Palmer and Kou Yang played the Nintendo game Super Smash Brothers with the group of about four to five people, Palmer said Tuesday. “I never played the game, so I said ‘why not?’” Palmer said.

The man who answered the door was a “decent dude,” according to Palmer. The group was inside, having pizza and some beers while playing the video game when they asked the officers if they wanted to join.

It was just a noise issue that was handled, Palmer said, resulting in no charges.

“Not every call is chaos,” said Palmer. “Some days we can just sit and chit chat with people. When it’s not crazy, you can take the time to talk.”

Super Smash Bros.: it transcends age & race.
