The Game Awards

The Game Awards honored and recognized some of the best games of 2018. But the Awards show does not only give awards, but it is also a place where developers and companies showcase some of the projects they have planned. Trailers are showcased from projects fans haven’t heard from in some time. There are announcements that gamers don’t expect as well. Here are all the surprises that shocked the gaming community.

Devil May Cry 5 Extended Trailer

Devil May Cry 5 has been on many gamers minds since its announcement at e3 2018. It is a series with a dedicated fanbase that had been eagerly anticipating when the next installment would come out (if it ever would). At the Game Awards, a trailer was released to gives fans a first-hand look at what they can expect. From the stunning graphics and the excitement of seeing beloved characters, DMC 5 promises to deliver on the high expectations. The trailer announces when the game will release, March 8, 2019, as well as when the demo goes live. Play the demo on December 7th, 2018.


Stranger Things 3: The Game

Fans of the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things have not heard much about the highly anticipated third season. It came as a big surprise for everyone when the creators of the hit show came onto the stage to announce their plans to release a Stranger Things game, centered around the third season. Stranger Things continues to draw on the nostalgia factor and is making the game 8-bit. It seems only fitting for the show that is set in the early 80s. Fans look forward to this game and we can only hope this is a sign that the third season is coming soon.


Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat shocked everyone. Ed Boon came out onto the stage in order to announce the Best Sports/Racing Game, but Boon had other plans. He is the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us. He surprised everyone by releasing a trailer for the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 11. After the success of the 10th installment of the series, fans of the popular fighting game waited eagerly for any news of the 11th. The wait is over as we got our first look at what we can expect from this franchise.


First DLC Character for Smash Revealed

This was a reveal no one was expecting. Super Smash Bros Ultimate was set to release midnight, after The Game Awards. A Smash direct occurred only a month where it was revealed there would be five DLC characters added to the roster after the game released. Fans of Smash were stunned when they saw the iconic leader of the Phantom Thieves from the hit game Persona 5. Once Joker held up the envelope with the wax seal of the Smash ball, everyone lost their minds. Nintendo and Sakurai promised to make this Smash the biggest and best it could possibly be and they’re delivering on that promise. With Joker from Persona 5 added to the roster who knows who else will be included in the battle.

The Game Awards 2018 has proven to not just be another awards show. It is also a show to keep an eye out for when it comes to games and their development. With all of these surprises we look forward to what The Game Awards will bring for next year.
