The funeral service for George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States of America, will be held today at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. at 11 p.m. EST. Bush served as President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. Due to today’s funeral service, today has been declared a National Day of Mourning.
President Bush passed away in the early hours of Saturday, December 1, at the age of 94-years-old. His wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, previously passed away on April 17, 2018, at the age of 92-years-old.
Presidents Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Bush’s son George W. Bush are all expected to be in attendance. In addition to American politicians, various world leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Prince Charles of Wales, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II are all expected to be in attendance as well.
In addition to being the 41st President of the United States of America, Bush served as the 43rd Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989, and was a congressman, an ambassador, and the Director of Central Intelligence during his many decades of public service.
Following the 11 a.m. EST service, a departure ceremony will begin at the Washington National Cathedral at 12:30 p.m. before another departure ceremony takes place at 1:15 p.m. at Joint Base Andrews.
After today’s services, President Bush’s remains will be flown to Ellington Field in Houston, Texas.
