John Drennan and his partner Daniella Anthony had a whirlwind of a weekend in New York City. The couple was visiting the Big Apple from the United Kingdom following the Thanksgiving holiday when John decided to end their trip with an engagement in Central Park. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when the engagement ring fell down a subway grate.

Luckily for John and Daniella, the New York City Police Department was there to help.

Not only did the NYPD retrieve the engagement ring from the grate, but they also took to social media in an effort to find the couple and reunite them with the ring.

The NYPD started its search with this tweet on Saturday, December 1.

““WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC! She said Yes – but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate. Our @NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple,” the message read. “Help us find them? 💍 call 800-577-TIPS @NYPDTIPS @NYPDMTN””

The NYPD even cleaned up the ring for John and Daniella.

Eventually, the couple was found and John and Daniella expressed their gratitude on social media.

“I cant believe its been found – We are so so happy,” John wrote. “Thank you @NYPDnews dropping you a DM now!”

Daniella added, “Thank you so much @NYPDnews and everyone for sharing and reuniting me with my ring! Proposal was in Central Park and fell off over the drain! Thought was gone forever! Can’t thank officers enough!”

It turned out to be a true fairy tale.

Thank you, Twitter. Case closed!

And what do you know, even the New York City Police Department officers who helped retrieve the ring are getting something out of the whole deal, with John promising some ice cold brews the next time the couple returns to New York.

“Gents, I cannot thank you enough, although I will try,” John wrote. “A few cold beers when we come back to NYC! We are completely overwhelmed and you will definitely get a mention at our wedding! Thank you again!”
