Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury put on a show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, December 1. The heavyweights clashed for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight championship, but ultimately neither fighter was able to come away with the win.
The end result of the epic 12-round war was a split draw, which left Wilder retaining his title.
But despite the anti-climactic ending, the bout was not short of drama.
Throughout the fight, Fury, who was the taller and quicker fighter, appeared to be in control. However, as the fight went on, Wilder was able to find a home for his punches and began landing devastating shots.
As a result of two of his big shots, he scored two knockdowns.
In the 12th and final round, Wilder landed a shot that was so devastating that it appeared Fury was out cold. Fury was laid out flat on his back with his hands outstretched at his sides. But somehow, Fury was able to regain his wits and surprise the entire crowd when he returned to his feet.
Here is a look at the blow that seemingly everyone believed put Fury away.
The judges ultimately scored the fight 115-111 for Wilder, 114-110 for Fury, and 113-113. Without the late knockdowns, Wilder would have certainly dropped his title.
