Sarah Silverman, born December 1, 1970, in Bedford, New Hampshire, is a Jewish American actress, comedian, and writer, who has won two Emmy Awards for her work on television.
Silverman began her career as a writer for the long-running NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. After being fired from Saturday Night Live, Silverman starred in the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show from 1995 to 1997 and had starred in the 1997 independent film Who’s the Caboose?. On July 3, 1997, Silverman made her television standup comedy debut on The Late Show with David Letterman.
Starting in the late 1990’s and continuing into the early 2000’s, Silverman’s career began to expand, as she had roles in television shows such as Star Trek: Voyager, Seinfeld, VIP, Greg the Bunny, and Crank Yankers. She also appeared as a guest on the Comedy Central Roasts of Pamela Anderson and Hugh Hefner.
During this time, she also began starring in movies, appearing in films such as There’s Something About Mary, Overnight Delivery, Screwed, Heartbreakers, Evolution, Say It Isn’t So, School of Rock, The Way of the Gun, School for Scoundrels, and Rent.
From 2007 to 2010, Silverman wrote, produced, and starred in the Comedy Central show The Sarah Silverman Program.
More recently, Silverman has starred in Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet, A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Book of Henry, Battle of the Sexes, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and Crashing.
Since 2017, Silver has hosted the Hulu talk show series I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman.
Silverman has been involved in a couple of high-profile relationships during her career, dating comedian Dave Attell, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, and actor Michael Sheen.
