28-year-old police Officer Samuel Jimenez has been identified as was one of four people who was killed gunman Juan Lopez in the active shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago.
According to reports, Jimenez — who worked in the city’s 2nd Police District and joined the department in 2017 — ran into the line of fire to save others when a gunman began opening firing inside of the Mercy Hospital in Chicago’s South Side Neighborhood.
Jimenez was a husband and father of three.

Flags are expected to fly at half-staff at the 2nd Police District in Chicago on Tuesday, November 20.
Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Sgt. Larry Snelling said that Jimenez was a “stellar recruit.”
“He was on top of his game. He was always in control. It takes a special kind of person to go through the rigors of the training without any issues, any problems. He was able to deal and cope with the stress,” Snelling said.
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation said that they will present Officer Jimenez’s family with a check for $60,000 to help with expenses and that the foundation will also take care of any expenses education-related expenses for his children.
What Happened At Mercy Hospital?

Police were called to Mercy Hospital in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood at around 3:30 p.m. after a gunman confronted his ex-fiancee, emergency room doctor Tamara O’Neal.
Lopez shot and killed ex-fiancee Tamara O’Neal in the parking lot and then ran into the hospital continuing to shoot, killing a pharmacy resident coming off of an elevator who was just going about her business. She has been identified as 25-year- old Dayna Less.
Lopez exchanged gunfire with Officer Jimenez and other officers as he ran into the hospital. Jimenez was shot in the lobby. A second officer was also hit but the bullet hit his holster.
The active shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, is the is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.
Despite all of the recent shooting deaths in the United States, the nation’s government has yet to make any changes to our laws to better ensure the safety of the population.
