Shannon R. Beran has been identified as the 43-year-old Louisiana teacher who was arrested for allegedly consuming a bag of wine while at work.
According to a statement released by the Rapides Parish Police Department, Beran — who was teaching at Buckeye Elementary School — allegedly displayed “odd behavior during car rider pick-up duty” on Wednesday, October 24.
In addition to what was described as “odd” behavior, Beran was also reportedly “moving slowly and awkwardly.” When confronted by someone on the scene, Beran allegedly became defensive, stating that she “wanted to leave.”
This prompted the school’s Student Resource Officer to step in, who then warned school officials that Beran “was possibly intoxicated and may have alcohol in her room.” Following a search of Beran’s classroom, a partially consumed bag of wine was found.
After the alcohol was found, Beran was arrested an charged with possession of alcohol on public school property.

On October 24, 2018, at approximately 3:15 PM the School Resource Officer at Hayden R. Lawrence Upper Elementary responded to Buckeye Elementary, as their SRO had already left for the day, to assist with the school administration with a possible intoxicated school employee. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with school administrators who advised that one of the teachers, identified as Shannon Rene Beran, 43 of Deville, was possibly intoxicated and may have alcohol in her room.
According to witnesses, Beran had been displaying odd behavior during car rider pick up duty, moving slowly and awkwardly. When confronted and asked about her condition, she stated she wanted to leave and became defensive. The School Resource Officer detained Beran and began his investigation. The school administration followed their policy and also notified the school board office.
With the assistance of school administrators, a partially consumed bag of wine was located in Berans classroom. After the investigation was completed by the School Resource Officer, Beran was placed under arrest for possession of alcohol on public school property.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and later released on a $500 bond.
