Bobby McKeithen: Full Story Of Butler High School Shooting Victim

The Matthews Police Department has identified 10th grader Bobby McKeithen as the victim in the Butler High School shooting.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox, the shooting happened around 7 a.m. EST in a “crowded hallway” before classes started for the day.

McKeithen was shot and killed by 16-year-old Jatwan Craig Cuffie, who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. At this time, Cuffie’s motive in the shooting is unknown.

Cuffie is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. Additionally, Butler High School will be closed on Tuesday, October 30, as a result of the tragedy.


Who Is Bobby McKeithen?

McKeithen has been identified as the teenage victim who was shot and killed in the hallway of Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina, on the morning of Monday, October 29.


What Happened?

Around 7 a.m. EST on Monday, October 29, 16-year-old teen Jatwan Craig Cuffie shot and killed 10th-grade student Bobby McKeithen in the hallways of Butler High School before classes started.

Following the shooting, the school’s student resource officer responded to the scene and apprehended Cuffie, who was arrested and taken into custody by the Matthews Police Department.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district released the following statement after the shooting:

“Butler High School is on lockdown after a student was shot on campus this morning. The single shooter has been apprehended and the weapon is in the possession of law enforcement. Law enforcement has advised that there is no further immediate danger at this time and the initial investigation shows this to be an isolated incident.

The victim has been transported for medical attention. Butler High School families are being advised through phone calls. Law enforcement officers have secured the camps and an investigation by law enforcement continues. No persons will be allowed onto the Butler High School campus until the lockdown has been lifted by law enforcement.”

Butler High School is located approximately 22 miles southeast of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The shooting at Butler High School that took McKeithen’s life is just the latest in a string of evacuations, lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States of America in recent years.
