UFC light heavyweight contenders Anthony Smith and Volkan Oezdemir headlined UFC Fight Night 128 at Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on Saturday, October 27. Smith entered the bout as the No. 10 fighter in the division, while Oezdemir was favored as the No. 2-ranked contender.
Following Saturday’s bout, the division has been turned on its head.
Smith was able to weather the early storm against Oezdemir before turning up his own pressure and landing some heavy shots. Smith eventually changed levels midway through the fight and landed a takedown which proved to be what he needed to run away with the big submission victory that officially puts him in the upper echelon of the 205-pound weight class.
For his efforts, Smith earned a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.
