George Odemns has been identified as the intruder who was shot by a security guard as he tried to break into the WTTG Fox 5 building in Washington D.C. Police responded to the scene around 3:15 p.m. local time on Monday, October 22.

According to Fox 5 — the station that the attempted break-in occurred at —  Odemns, 38, reportedly kicked down a door before he was confronted by two security guards and shot by one of them. Odemns survived the shooting and was subsequently taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Additionally, Odemns was known to police and some employees of FOX 5 after he previously sent bizarre and rambling emails to FOX 5 staff members and sued FOX 5, Fox News, the White House, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. police and several others. Furthermore, court records indicate that Odemns was charged with murder in 2002 but the case was dismissed.

At this time, Odems’ motive for the attempted break-in is not known. He was not armed. Following the attempted break-in and shooting, police remained on the scene to investigate. There were no other injuries as a result of the incident.

In a statement, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said he’s keeping the news station’s employees in his thoughts.

Odemns was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary. No FOX 5 employees were injured during the incident and were safe after the shooting.
