Curtis LeMair, a freshman from Northern State University, was found dead in his dorm.
What Happened?
Curtis LeMair is a three-time Minnesota state medalist in wrestling, who was found dead in his dorm on October 17th, 2018. Authorities said that they do not suspect any foul play.
His mother, Mona LeMair spoke to him on Tuesday night.
She said, “He was healthy and fine. He was looking forward to hunting this weekend with his friends and most of all his best friend & dad, Chad.”
His father, Chad LeMair, is a local business owner, former City Council member and deputy mayor.
On October 17, his roommate went over to wake Curtis up early for wrestling practice, but after several tries, he was still non-responsive. When police came, it was confirmed by them that Curtis has died during his sleep.
In a Facebook post, his parents wrote “our hearts are shattered. Life will never be the same.”
Northern State University also issued a message to his death.
“The Northern State University community extends its condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Curtis LeMair. Curtis was found deceased in his residence hall early Wednesday morning. Northern is working alongside the Aberdeen Police Department as they investigate a cause of death. Police have informed NSU there doesn’t appear to be any foul play.”
President Downs asks that the public keep the family, friends and teammates of the student in their thoughts and prayers.”
Even Prior Lake’s Mayor, Kirt Briggs commented on LeMair’s death, saying he was well revered as an outstanding athlete and his departure has rocked the town.
“There’s a pall over the community,” Briggs said to Star Tribune.
During his wrestling career in Prior Lake High School, LeMair came in third at the Class 3A Minnesota tournament, finishing the season with a 39-4 record. LeMair also came in third place at the state tournament as a sophomore and fifth place as a junior.
In three seasons, he had a record of 106-20.
