Joan Smalls, born July 11, 1988, is a Puerto Rican model who first became a Victoria’s Secret Angel 2010 and featured in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show from 2011 to 2016.
Smalls — born Joan Smalls Rodríguez on July 11, 1988, in Hatillo, Puerto Rico — graduated magna cum laude from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree in psychology before moving to New York City to become a model.
Smalls first signed with a talent agency in 2009 and became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010.
Since becoming a professional model, Smalls has modeled for massive brands such as Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Burberry, Moschino, Alexander Wang, Versace, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain, Fendi, Dior, Valentino, Tommy Hilfiger and more.
As for magazine appearances, Smalls has been seen in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, Dazed & Confused, Elle, V, Glamour, W, and more.
Smalls has also quietly begun an acting career, appearing in the movies John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017 and Set It Up in 2018. She has also made a couple of television appearances, having guest starred on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Lip Sync Battle.
