Asia Argento is an Italian actress, director, singer, and model who is best known for her role of Yelena in the 2002 action film xXX. Argento, who is also an Italian film director, was also Anthony Bourdain’s until the time of his death. Argento met Anthony Bourdain when she appeared on the Italian episode of his CNN food and travel show Parts Unknown.
Argento comes from a pedigree of filmmaking as she is the daughter of Dario Argento, an Italian film director, and Daria Nicolodi, an Italian actress. Argento, who was born in Rome, Italy, began to act at the age of nine years old. Argento wrote and directed her first fiction feature film, Scarlet Diva, in the year 2000. The film was produced by her father, Dario Argento.
Back in 2002, Argento first received international recognition when she portrayed Yelena — an undercover Russian spy — in the American action film xXx alongside Vin Diesel. Following xXx, Argento was offered numerous roles in big-budget Hollywood movies, however, she turned them down to instead directed her second feature film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Thing. The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Thing was released in 2004.
Not only does Argento have a successful filmmaking career, Argento also has a music career, releasing her debut album, Total Entropy, in May 2013.
In 2017, Argento began dating renowned American celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain. The two met during the filming of Bourdain’s CNN series Parts Unknown in Rome. Argento dated Bourdain up until his death by suicide on June 8, 2018.
