MIT police are warning women to be on alert after an alleged assault attempt at the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house.

According to reports, authorities alerted students on Sunday, May 27, that a woman sleeping on an upper floor of the Phi Kappa Theta house called police to report that she woke up to an unknown man touching her leg.

Authorities say that the suspect ran away and police were unable to find someone matching his description inside the fraternity house. The Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house is located at 229 Commonwealth Ave in Boston, Massachusettes. At this time, police at MIT are still searching for the suspect related to the incident. In the meantime, they are urging students to take precautions like locking windows and doors.

“We’ve had minor incidents like these and the procedure is always more or less the same,” graduate student Mukarram Tahir said. “We received an email from MIT explaining the details of the situation and after that some advice on how you can avoid getting into similar situations.”

The report comes just days after an alleged rape at the university’s Theta Delta Chi chapter. On Wednesday, May 23, an alert was sent out to the MIT community about an alleged rape at the Theta Delta Chi fraternity house. The victim told authorities that the alleged rape happened on May 19 during a party at Theta Delta Chi on Memorial Drive.

In the Theta Delta Chi incident, MIT police do not currently have a description of the suspect and have not released the alleged assailant’s identity.

MIT police are also reminding students that “if you see something, say something.”
