The Indianapolis 500 takes place on Sunday afternoon, with Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosting the 102nd running of the big race. There is some added buzz entering the 2018 Indy 500 with the race marking the final time Danica Patrick will be getting behind the wheel in her professional career.
Patrick will be in Row 3 along with 2001, 2002, and 2009 Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, and 2008 winner Scott Dixon. Sitting on the pole will be Ed Carpenter, along with Simon Pagenaud and Will Power in Row 1.
The national anthem prior to the green flag will be performed by Kelly Clarkson, the original winner of American Idol and popular pop-country singer. Clarkson previously performed the national anthem at the Indy 500 in collaboration with Seal.
The race will be airing on ABC, with live online coverage available via ABC.com, the ABC app, WatchESPN, Sling TV, and DirecTV NOW.
The green flag is expected to wave around 12:21 p.m. ET after two-time Olympic medalist Nick Goepper serves as the grand marshall and calls drivers to report to their cars to officially get the festivities underway.
