The driver, a 47-year-old Roselle man, told police he picked up Dykstra in Linden. When the driver turned down Dykstra’s request to change his destination, the ex-major league player allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it at the man’s head and threatened to kill him.

The driver got the attention of police by speeding into a parking garage next to the police station and repeatedly honking his horn before stopping at headquarters, police said. The Uber driver then ran from his car, according to police.

Dykstra, 55, was charged with making terroristic threats and possession of cocaine, marijuana and MDMA. He was released with a summons and is due to appear in Union County Superior Court in Elizabeth in June.

Dykstra is former Major League Baseball player who played for the New York Mets from 1985 to 1989 and the Philadelphia Phillies from 1989 to 1996. This is just the latest of a long line of Dykstra run-ins with law enforcement.
