31 years on from his professional soccer debut, Jurgen Klopp is now the manager of Liverpool F.C. Born on June 16, 1967, Klopp joined his first professional team, 1. FC Pforzheim in 1987. 2001-2015
In 2001, then FSV Mainz 05 manager Eckhard Krautzen was fired, leaving the club without a manager. Shortly thereafter Klopp was named his replacement.
In Klopp’s first game as manager, he secured a win, setting the tone for his time with the team. He led the team to top-five finishes in each of his first three seasons earning the club a promotion to the top tier Bundesliga. Mainz 05 spent the next three seasons in the Bundesliga, even earning a spot in the UEFA cup during the 2005-06 season. Klopp eventually resigned following the 2007-08 season
In may of 2008, Klopp signed a deal with BVB Dortmund to become their manager. In his first season leading the team, they defeated Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga finals. In the very next season, he would lead the team to another Bundesliga championship, going back to back. Klopp would spend eight years with BVB Dortmund, leading them to multiple record-setting seasons in 2011-12 as well as Super Cup wins in 2013 and 2014.
2015-Present
In 2015, following his resignation from BVB Dortmund, Klopp was signed by Liverpool F.C. as their manager. He signed a six-year contract extension in 2016 putting him in charge of the club until 2022.
