Kenneth Collard, a Los Angeles police officer, has been arrested and charged with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in her home in nearby Torrance last month. Collard was hit with multiple charges, including four total counts. The Torrance Police Department began an investigation when the incident was first reported. Here is all of the information that we currently know.


What Happened?

Kenneth Collard, 51, was charged with three counts of lewd acts upon a child and one count of sexual penetration with a foreign object, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Collard was reportedly staying at a friend’s home when he entered the victim’s room in the middle of the night and sexually assaulted her. Bail has been set for $400,000.

If convicted, Collard faces a maximum of 32 years in prison, according to ABC-7 Los Angeles.

“On April 4, Collard was staying at a friend’s house in Torrance. During the middle of the night he allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom and is accused of sexually assaulting her. The incident was reported to law enforcement,” a statement from the District Attorney’s office said.


Who Is Kenneth Collard?

Collard was assigned to the West Los Angeles division of the LAPD. He was assigned to remain at home since the investigation first began. Back in 2009, Collard was part of an officer-involved shooting during a robbery and attempted carjacking investigation. The suspect was shot dead.
