Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in “Superman,” passed away over the weekend in Montana. The actress was at her home in Montana at the time of her death. TMZ was first to report the news. Kidder had continued acting up until this year and she reportedly has two roles that have yet to be released. She is survived by her daughter, Maggie McGuane, who was born in 1976.

Margot Kidder Cause of Death: Currently Unknown

The cause of death is currently unknown at this time. However, according to the spokesman for Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, Montana, she was at her home when she passed away. Kidder previously suffered with bipolar disorder, with the struggles leading to her briefly being homeless. After the incident, she became an advocate for mental health.

Margaret Ruth “Margot” Kidder was born October 17, 1948, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. The actress and activist first rose to fame as her starring role as Lois Lane in the original Superman co-starring Christopher Reeves. She also starred in Sisters, Black Christmas, The Great Waldo Pepper, and The Amityville Horror.

Kidder won an Emmy Award for her role in the children’s television series R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, while also acting on Broadway in The Vagina Monologues.

Along with her work on stage and on the silver screen, Kidder has served as a political and environmental activist. She became a United States citizen on Aug. 17, 2005, so that she could participate in the voting process to back up her activism.
