Amanda Bobby Cooper is leaving to leave her mark on the mixed martial arts world, competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s strawweight division. Cooper competed on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Joanna vs. Team Claudia, reaching the tournament finals before losing to Tatiana Suarez in the season finale. Cooper got off to a slow start to kickoff her professional mixed martial arts career, but she has won two of her last three outings in the octagon and is hoping that a second straight win could begin her climb up the 115-pound ladder.

Cooper began boxing at the age of 11, but holds a purple belt in jiu-jitsu.

“I used to get on the mats and role around for three hours and my body never ached. But now I have to warm up for 15 minutes, I have to stretch, take the right proteins, I have to take care of my body better than I used to,” Cooper said, via the Lansing State Journal.

“I heal fast, I don’t have a broken nose. But you have to take care of your body if you want to do this for a long time. It’s hard now, I don’t have a job. I have to rely on, ‘I have to win this fight.”

Next up for Cooper is a meeting with undefeated jiu-jitsu ace Mackenzie Dern at UFC 224, which takes place Saturday, May 12 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

“She has bad standup. She throws the same strikes over and over again,” Cooper said in an interview with FloCombat.com. “I haven’t been too impressed. Lately her fights have looked worse than before, so that gives me a good mental edge knowing that I feel like I’m getting better and better.”

Cooper predicts a second-round TKO finish.
