Lomachenko was born February 17, 1988, in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. Before ever suiting up as a boxer, Lomachenko’s father Anatoly did not allow him to train until he attended ballet classes and gymnastics. Anatoly was a boxing coach, which influenced Lomachenko’s decision to pursue the sport. Had his father not been a boxing coach, Lomachenko says he would have pursued a professional ice hockey career.

Amateur Career (Pre-2007-2013)

As an amateur, Lomachenko was one of the best to ever lace up his gloves. Lomachenko won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, before winning the World Championships the following year in Milan. Lomachenko would also win the World Championships in 2011, before winning his second straight Olympic gold medal in London. Lomachenko amassed an amateur record of 396-1 before turning pro.

Professional Career (2013-Present Day)

As a professional, the Ukranian boxer holds a record of 10-1. Lomachenko won the WBO international featherweight title in his pro debut, before dropping his second bout to Orlando Salido. Lomachenko would go on to claim the vacant WBO featherweight title in June 2014, before winning the WBO junior lightweight title two years later. On Saturday, May 12, Lomachenko faces off against Jorge Linares for the WBA super and The Ring lightweight titles.
