Tatum was a five-star recruit and was regarded as one of the top players in the 2016 class. As one of the best players in his class and in college, he only played at Duke for one year before entering the draft. In the 2016-17 season, Tatum led the Blue Devils to an ACC Championship. In a controversial move, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge dealt away the team’s #1 pick in the 2017 NBA draft to the Philadelphia 76ers in the hopes that the player he actually wanted, Tatum, would still be on the board with the #3 pick he received in return. Luckily for him and the Celtics nation, Tatum was still there come the third pick and he was picked up by Boston. Tatum had an extremely impressive rookie year, posting an average of 13.9 points and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.5% from the field.
