Dua Lipa is a 22-year-old English singer, songwriter, and model. Her musical career began at age 14 when she began covering songs and posting them on YouTube.
Lipa, whose first name means “love” in Albanian, was born in London, to Albanian parents from Kosovo. Her roots in Kosovo have remained important to her as in 2016, she created the Sunny Hill Foundation with her father to donate to the citizens of Kosovo.
She attended Sylvia Young Theatre School, before moving to Kosovo with her family when she was 13. Two years later, she moved back to London with aspirations of becoming a singer. In 2013, she starred in a television advertisement for The X Factor.
In 2015, she signed with Warner Music Group and immediately began working on her debut album. Shortly after she signed with Warner, she released her first single from the album, “New Love”.
Her self-titled debut studio album was released on June 2, 2017. The album spawned seven singles, including two UK top-10 singles “Be the One” and “IDGAF” and the UK number-one single “New Rules”, which also reached number six in the US. In 2018, Lipa won two Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.
