The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders, known as the First Ladies of Football, are the longest-running professional National Football League cheerleading organization. Originally called the Redskinettes, the team has been cheering for the Washington Redskins since September 30, 1962.
The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders are some of the most successful in the history of the league. In 1982, they were invited to be the first NFL cheerleaders to perform in Asia promoting U.S. commercial products throughout Taiwan. In 1983 the cheerleaders produced their first calendar, which they have continued to produce annually since.
On May 2, 2018, the Washington Redskins cheerleaders accused the franchise’s management of forcing them to pose undressed for a 2013 calendar photo shoot in front of the team’s male sponsors. Furthermore, the cheerleaders claim they have to escort some of the staff to a nightclub.
In a report released by the New York Times on Wednesday, May 2, the cheerleaders detailed their 2013 trip to Costa Rica for a calendar photo shoot, during which they were required to satisfy demands that stretched far beyond their responsibility. Stephanie Jojokian, the longtime director and choreographer for the Redskins’ cheerleaders, disputed much of the women’s description of the Costa Rica trip.
