Now that we are a full month into the 2018 MLB season, I’m releasing my third installment of our MLB Power Rankings. There has not been too much reshuffling at the top of the rankings as Boston and Houston continue to occupy the two top spots. The Angels have slipped slightly as the first month has gone on and the New York Yankees have shot right up behind our top two. The Yankees lineup is finally showing us how prolific it really is and currently on a 9-game winning streak. The two surprise top-10 teams are the Phillies and Pirates who come in at 9 and 10 respectively. Both are off to hotter than expected starts. And the Phillies divisional rival Washington continues to slip.
The league stat leaders for the first month of the season: HR – 10 (Trout, Gregorious, Haniger), RBI – 30 (Gregorious), batting avg. – .361 (Machado), ERA – .084 (Johnny Cueto), and WAR – 2.4 (Trout).
Let me remind you how the rankings are decided. For these power rankings, I will mostly rely on the actual results of what has occurred. Also, team expectations and long-term sustainability will play a slight factor as well. So, let’s see how things have changed.
