The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Indiana University had its chapter activities suspended in the midst of an investigation. Zeta Tau Alpha has temporarily suspended chapter activities at the Alpha Xi chapter on IU’s campus as they investigate alleged violations of policies, although the specific violations are unclear at this time.

According to Fox 59, the alumni of the Alpha Xi chapter at IU received an email stating all chapter activities are temporarily suspended while the national council investigates what it says are alleged violations of their policies.

At this time, no information has been released regarding which specific code of conduct policies was possibly violated or what led to the investigation. An Indiana University spokesperson said the university supports the national council’s actions but could not comment further.

“While the investigation is ongoing, there is no further information that can be given at this time,” the sorority said in an email.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.
