Bush, the 41st president of the United States, was admitted to the intensive care unit just days following the funeral for his wife, Barbara Bush. Bush was admitted to the hospital on the morning of Sunday, April 22. Bush was suffering from an infection that led to sepsis, an infection of the blood that can be life-threatening.

The 93-year-old became the longest-lived president in United States history after surpassing Gerald Ford’s previous record of 93 years and 165 days.

Bush has been dealing with health issues for the past few years.

Bush missed the inauguration of Donald Trump due to health issues and was hospitalized for issues stemming from pneumonia. He also was hospitalized in April 2017 for another case of pneumonia. His current health problem led to his admittance to Houston Methodist Hospital.

George Herbert Walker Bush was born on June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts. The Republican politician is most notably known for serving as the 41st president of the United States. But while he did serve as president, Bush 41 has a long and impressive resume throughout the years.

After graduating from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, Bush became an aviator in the United States Navy, where he served from 1942-1945. Bush was part of the Fast Carrier Task Force unit and reached the rank of lieutenant. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Presidential Unit Citation awards during his military career.

As a business man, Bush also excelled, co-founding Zapata Petroleum Corporation and becoming an oil tycoon. Bush was a millionaire by the age of 40. He then began his career in politics, Bush served in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 7th District of Texas, served as Ambassador to the United Nations, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, U.S. Liason to the People’s Republic of China, Director of the CIA, vice president and president.

Bush was married to Barbara Pierce, a beloved first lady who was born in Rye, New York on January 6, 1945. The couple had six children: George Walker, Pauline “Robin” Robinson, John “Jeb” Ellis, Neil Mallon, Marvin Pierce, and Dorothy “Doro” Walker.

George W. Bush served as the 43rd president of the United States, while Jeb had an unsuccessful bid for presidency but was the 43rd Governor of Florida.
