Avengers: Infinity War’s anticipation is at an all-time high as the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will be facing its most significant threat to date in Thanos. Infinity War will change the Marvel landscape forever, but is leaving many fans wondering “what’s next?”

While we do not know how the movie will end, or what events will take place, Marvel has announced some films for after the release of Infinity War. Also, Disney is possibly buying 21st Century Fox which will give the rights of many of Marvel’s premiere characters such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. I will be going over movies that Marvel has confirmed as well as fan speculation about future movies as well.

Ant-Man and The Wasp

The first movie after Infinity War that Marvel is releasing is Ant-Man and The Wasp. The film will be a sequel to the original Ant-Man movie that was released in 2015. The question many fans have regarding the movie is where it will fit in the timeline. By the looks of the trailer, it is to take place before Infinity War but after Captain America: Civil War. The timing of the movie is strange because Marvel usually releases their films in a linear timeline. This movie will feature the much-anticipated character, The Wasp, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Wasp is a crucial character in the Marvel Comics, so fans will be elated to see her finally in a live action film. Hope van Dyne was teased to become the Wasp in the previous movie, but it looks like the character will finally come to the big screen. As the name suggests, this will be a movie about Scott Lang, the current Ant-Man, teaming up with Hope van Dyne, the new Wasp as they are sent on a mission to find secrets from their past. This movie will probably be self-contained and will not affect the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel

A new addition to the Marvel line up, Captain Marvel will be released in March of 2019, and it will follow the character of Carol Danvers. For those who do not know, Carol Danvers is a former Air Force Pilot who had been given the powers of a cosmic superhero named Captain Mar-vell. Not much is released from the actual movie, but many speculate that Captain Marvel will play a pivotal role in the second Infinity War film. What is known about this movie is that it will take place back in the 90’s. It was like the first Captain America movie where it takes us to a different decade in the installment on the franchise. The film will most likely cover a considerable amount of time and end in the modern time, possibly before the arrival of Thanos. Captain Marvel is a very beloved character within the Marvel Comics and fans are excited to see how shes portrayed on the big screen. Carol Danvers is a compelling character with super strength and energy projection powers and will most likely be fighting the Kree, the villains similar to those of the first Guardians of the Galaxy Movie.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

The second installment of the “Avengers vs. Thanos” storyline will be released in May of 2019. This movie will deal with the fallout of Avengers: Infinity War. This movie is shrouded in mystery as the real title of the movie is not even out.  The title probably has a spoiler in the title so for now; Marvel is branding it as Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. There is speculation that the plot of the movie will be about how Thanos acquired all of the Infinity Stones and is currently the strongest being in the Universe and the Avengers attempting to defeat him. The ending of this movie will be crucial to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How the Avengers subdue Thanos and if they tease a new future villain, much as they had done with Thanos is the first Avengers film.

Possible Future Films

While Marvel has announced movies for the future, some films are bound to happen because of how much of financial success the previous ones had as well as to carry the Marvel films for years to come. Marvel is sure to make a Spiderman, Doctor Strange, and Black Panther 2. These movies have done great in the box offices and there is a possibility that these three characters can be the faces of the Marvel franchise moving forward. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is another much-anticipated film that Marvel and coming off the heels of Infinity War 2, this movie would be a massive success. Disney is in the process of buying 21st Century Fox which like I said before, means Marvel will get the rights back to some of their most popular characters. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men are two properties that Marvel would love to have back in their hands. The X-Men could be a great franchise for Marvel to have in itself but and would fit perfectly into the post-Infinity War landscape. Fantastic Four has a longstanding history in Marvel, and with three movies that have been decimated by fans and critics, it only makes sense that Marvel takes their first family back and turns them into a staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
