College Student Arrested For Trying To Light Fraternity House On Fire

Philip Roper, a 22-year-old student at the University of the South has been indicted by a grand jury after a fraternity house caught fire on campus. Roper was arrested on Monday, April 9.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, on February 24th, crews contained a fire at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on the Sewanee campus.

The fire was contained to a stage area inside at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on the Sewanee campus. During the course of the investigation, authorities determined the fire was intentionally set.

Roper was arrested on Monday, April 9 and charged with one count of arson and one count of burning personal property. He was booked into the Franklin County Jail on $7,500 bond.
