A 22-year-old Lehigh University student from China has been charged with ethnic intimidation and other offenses after racist graffiti was found in a residence hall Thursday night.

Yukai Yang was in Northampton County Prison under $10,000 bail Saturday on charges that also include institutional vandalism and criminal mischief.

In a campus-wide email Saturday morning, Lehigh President John D. Simon said a student was arrested, suspended from school and barred from campus for allegedly scrawling racist language in the college residence hall where he lived. It appeared the graffiti was targeting another student at Lehigh. The statement did not identify the suspect, victim, or say what was written.

The Lehigh University Police Department’s blotter shows Yang was arrested for an act of criminal mischief at 9:10 p.m. at Warren Square A, which is described on Lehigh’s website as a complex in which 16 students reside. The police report did not detail what happened but listed $360 in property damage.
