National Library Week 2018 is upon us once again! To celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of some of the funniest book and library-themed memes and jokes out there to get you into the spirit. This year will also be something of a milestone, as it is the 60th anniversary of the event, which first took place in 1958. If you are wondering why there needs to be a full week, it’s because each day is an individual holiday, which we’ll explain below. After all, where else can you go to get books, movies and computers for free! Free! They deserve to be celebrated!
What will National Library Week be like this year?
According to the American Library Association, ballerina Misty Copeland will serve as the 2018 National Library Week Honorary Chair, in honor of her New York Times bestselling memoir, Life in Motion and her 2014 picture book, Firebird, which won the Coretta Scott King Book Illustrator Award in 2015.
One way to celebrate is the “Where did the library lead you?” promotion, which can be answered with posts on Twitter, Instagram or the I Love Libraries Facebook page during National Library Week; as long as you remember to include the hashtags, #NationalLibraryWeek and #LibrariesLead, on the social media posts, you can be eligible to win a $100 VISA gift card and a copy of the aforementioned Firebird. Entries can be a picture, video or text. The promotion ends on Saturday, April 14 at noon CT.
That said, nearly each day of the week is its own holiday. Take a look!
