Zeke Upshaw Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details

Tragedy recently struck when NBA G Leauge player Zeke Upshaw of the Grand Rapids Drive passed away just days after collapsing on the court while in a game against the Long Island Nets. He was 26 years old at the time of his death.

What happened?

Upshaw fell to the ground with about 50 seconds left in Saturday night’s game against the Long Island Nets; at the time, he needed to be taken off of the court on a stretcher.

According to Sports Illustrated, Upshaw’s mother issued the following statement, according to The Drive, highlighting that the family is asking for privacy at this time:

“After continued efforts from the medical team at Spectrum Health, Zeke made his transition at 11:16 a.m. To family, friends, teammates, coaches, fans and confidants, thank you for all your prayers and support during this most difficult time. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”

“Details of his memorial will be announced at a later date. We’d like to thank the many doctors and nurses at Spectrum Health for their efforts in caring for our son. We’d also like to thank the Grand Rapids Drive for the support they have extended to our family.”

At this time, an official cause of death has not been released. His official date of death was given as two days after the collapse, on March 26, 2018.


Who was Zeke Upshaw?

A native of Chicago, Upshaw played three seasons at Illinois State, with one season at Hofstra for his final season of NCAA eligibility. If life, he was a graduate of Illinois State, earning a degree in apparel, merchandising and design back in 2013.

Something of an international player, he played with teams in Slovenia and Luxembourg, before being drafted by the Grand Rapids Drive in 2016.
