Police are currently investigating a sexual assault report from a University of Texas student. The unidentified female student allegedly told authorities she was groped and “digitally penetrated” while attending a party at the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity house.
According to reports, three fraternity chapters hosted the party as part of “Round Up Weekend.” Round Up Weekend is when the various Greek Life organizations at the University of Texas also host concerts and philanthropic events. Reports indicate that about 875 people were at Sigma Theta chapter house at the time of the party.
Chapter president Jordan Coff told the American-Statesman that the alleged attacker was not a member of the Sigma Theta chapter.
“The victim is a good friend of mine and very well known within our chapter and is very well aware of the members of our chapter. She was not dancing with him. She has a boyfriend. That’s what I’ve gathered so far,” Coff said.
Furthermore, Coff said that the Sigma Theta chapter is working with police, however, he doesn’t know if there is a person of interest or a description available of the attacker.
A spokesman for Austin police had no additional information about the investigation an is asking for information is asked to call Austin police at 512-472-8477.
