A man with a loaded handgun and carrying a bag of SWAT equipment, later identified as Isaiah Malailua, has been arrested at Chicago’s busiest train station. According to reports, it is believed he stole his equipment from New York City police and Malailua is currently being charged with unlawful use of a weapon for wearing body armor, after being arrested near a ticket counter.

What happened?

According to The Chicago Tribune, police canines helped to find SWAT patches on Malailua’s person. Early Friday morning, Malailua was arrested at 9:30 A.M. at the Loop station at 225 S. Canal St. During the incident, it had been noted that he was wearing body armor and had a handgun in his possession, one that he was later determined not to have legally owned, according to authorities.

According to The Chicago Sun-Times, Cook County Judge John Fitzgerald Lyke Jr., who set Malailva’s bail at $100,000, issued the following statement concerning the case in court on Saturday:

“This is troubling, to say the least, in light of what’s happening in our country.”

Who is Isaiah Malailua?

Malailva is believed to be a native of Redding, California; he was also believed to be 21 years of age at the time of the incident.

It had been noted that Malailva had prior criminal history in Florida; because of this, he is expected to stay in Cook County until the case is resolved. If he is unable to post bond, he will be held at Cook County Jail until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for this Friday. As mentioned above, his bail is currently set at $100,000.
