The Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the University of Missouri was placed on disciplinary probation for hazing violations. However, the fraternity won’t face any sanctions from its national organization.

The university placed the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on probation until February 1, 2019, after determining active members hazed new members during the fall of 2017 semester. Furthermore, Beta Theta Pi must also have monthly meetings with the school’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life until December of 2018.

According to Fox2Now, the fraternity’s national organization decided the probation is sufficient. Justin Warren, a spokesman for the national Beta Theta Pi fraternity organization, said the investigation found one incident of hazing involving a few members. As a result of the incident, the two members involved were suspended until graduation and lost their rooms at the chapter house.

The suspension of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity comes just days after the FarmHouse International Fraternity announced that the closure of the University of Missouri’s FarmHouse chapter was in response to a joint investigation the fraternity conducted with the university into allegations of hazing and alcohol violations.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.
