In 1996, Ibrahimović signed his first contract with Malmö, moving up to the senior side within three years. By 2001, however, he signed on to a deal with Ajax. Originally playing under manager Co Adriaanse, coach Ronald Koeman inserted Ibrahimović into the starting lineup by 2001. During an incident in 2004, Ibrahimović injured his teammate, Rafael van der Vaart, causing him to be sold to Juventus by August of that year, for €16 million. Unfortunately, his time with Juventus was not an easy one; between being moved onto the sidelines, with fans complaining of his anonymous presence, and Juventus being stripped of some of their awards in a recent scandal, Ibrahimović’s agent threatened legal action if he was not freed from his contract. By 2006, Ibrahimović made a €24.8 million move to Internazionale, signing a four-year-deal, ending his final season as the league’s top goalscorer with 25 goals, going on to transer to Barcelona for the rest of the decade.

For the 2010–11 season, Milan announced that they signed on Ibrahimović, with him transferring to Paris Saint-Germain by the next two years. The switch proved successful, with him lasting from the 2012–13 season to the 2015–16 season. By the 2016–17 season, he signed on with Manchester United for a one-year contract, with the option of an extension, with his salary at around £200,000 per week. The following season saw him sign on to another one-year contract. However, by March 2018, he agreed to the termination of his contract. The following day, however, announced his move to LA Galaxy, moving him to the United States. Signing a two-year contract, it was announced he will be paid $3 million using targeted allocation money.
