Florida State University is a public university in Tallahassee, Florida and is the oldest institute of higher learning in the state. The university, which is home to more than 40,000 graduate and undergraduate students, was founded in 1851. The school’s motto is “Vires, artes, mores,” which translates to “Strength, Skill, Character.” The university is currently ranked the 33rd best public university in the United States.
The current school president is John E. Thrasher, who leads an academic staff of nearly 6,000.

Florida State Seminoles Cheerleaders
The Florida State spirit squad features a coed cheerleading team and an all-girls dance team known as the “Golden Girls.” The cheer squad’s coaching staff consists of head coach Staci Sutton, all-girl coach Natasha Goodman and coed coach Ryan Kline. The Golden Girls are led by head coach Chasity Tyus and assistant coach Nadia Nixon.
The cheerleading team performs at home football games, home men’s basketball games, and select women’s volleyball and women’s basketball home games. If the Seminoles reach the NCAA Tournament, the cheer squad travels to all men’s tournament games.

After a 22-11 finish under veteran head coach Leonard Hamilton, who is in his 16th season leading the Seminoles, Florida State punched its ticket to the 2018 NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid in the West Regional. The Seminoles kicked off the tournament as a No. 9 seed.
In the First Round of the tournament, the Seminoles took down No. 8 seed Missouri. Florida State followed their tournament-opening win with another upset, this time taking down the Xavier Musketeers, the top seed in the region, in the Round of 32 to set up a Sweet 16 clash with Gonzaga.
