Purdue University is a public university located in West Lafayette, Indiana. The university, home to more than 40,000 students, is the second largest in the state of Indiana, with the fourth largest international student population in the country. Purdue was founded in 1869 thanks to donations from a local businessman, John Purdue, who donated land and money to start the university.
The school’s motto is “Education, Research, Service.”
The current school president is Mitch Daniels, who leads an academic staff of more than 3,000.

Purdue Boilermakers Cheerleaders
The Purdue cheerleading squad won the university’s first-ever national championship in cheerleading at the UCA College Cheerleading Championships at Disney World in Orlando in 2018.
Steve Solberg serves as the Spirit Coordinator & Head Cheer Coach for Purdue.
“The commitment and the athleticism – the things these kids put themselves through – there’s been such great support for us,” Solberg said after the Boilermakers’ national title. “It’s been great to finally get that win and get that weight off our shoulders.
“The kids, they feel like rock stars right now. They’ve earned it.”

The Purdue men’s basketball team, led by head coach Matt Painer, finished off the 2017-18 campaign with a 30-6 record. The Boilermakers finished secondin the Big Ten with a 15-3 record in conference play.
Prior to the regular season, Purdue represented the United States as the national team for the World University Games. The Boilermakers earned a silver medal at the games after falling to Team Lithuania in the Gold Medal Game.
Purdue entered the 2018 NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed in the East Regional and the tournament’s No. 7 overall seed. They reached the Sweet 16 with wins over Cal State Fullerton and Butler and will face Texas Tech for a shot at the Elite 8.
