Princeton University Panera Bread Standoff: Full Story & Must-See Details

Princeton University has closed two school buildings as part of a possible hostage active shooter incident taking place at a nearby Panera Bread on Nassau Street, with the school posting a campus alert and various updates of the story on their official website and social media accounts.

What happened?

On the school’s official Twitter account, a campus alert had been issued; in addition, the following statement was made:

“@PrincetonPolice were called to the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street across from the #PrincetonU campus, and they have an armed man surrounded inside the building.”

The campus alert, which came from Princeton’s official website, issued the following updates:

“Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded an armed man inside the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street, across from campus. Police urge everyone to avoid the area.”

“Municipality of Princeton police continue to surround an armed man inside the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street, across from campus. Law enforcement officials are negotiating with the man.”

“Law enforcement officials continue to negotiate with an armed man whom Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from campus.”

“No new information to report. Law enforcement officials continue to negotiate with an armed man whom Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from campus.”

“The situation remains unchanged, according to a short statement issued by municipality of Princeton police. Nassau Street is closed between Witherspoon Street and Washington Road.”

“The New Jersey Attorney General’s office announced Tuesday evening that, after a standoff, police shot and killed an armed man inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from the Princeton University campus. Details are on the attorney general’s website.”

In addition, two school buildings, identified asHenry House and Scheide Caldwell House, have been evacuated as a response. At this time, it is unknown if the shooter has any connection to the school.

Classes are not in session at the school, as it is currently Spring Break.

UPDATE: By 6:00 P.M., the situation had been cleared, with the gunman shot and killed. At this time, his identity is unknown.
