Katherine Langford is an Australian actress best known for playing Hannah Baker in the 2017 Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and for her role as Leah Burke in the 2018 film Love, Simon. Langford received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in Television Series Drama for her performance in 13 Reasons Why.
Langford was born in Perth, Australia. She began voice lessons in 2005, being trained in received classical, jazz, and contemporary vocals. Lanford attended Perth Modern School for high school, studying music and drama. Furthermore, Langford was sports captain and a nationally ranked swimmer. She graduated from Perth Modern School in 2014.
Langford auditioned for her role in 13 Reasons Why over Skype before receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal of Hannah Baker. Langford researched the role by speaking with a representative of the sexual assault awareness campaign “It’s On Us” and a psychiatrist who specializes in adolescence. In December 2016, she signed with the William Morris Endeavor agency.
Langford first appearance in a feature film was in The Misguided. In 2018, she appeared as Leah in the 2018 film Love, Simon, an adaptation of the coming-of-age novel “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda”.
