Police and firefighters are dealing with fire at Maroush Restaurant, a Lebanese street food eatery complete with music and belly dancing, said to be on Britain’s busiest high street impacting four floors of office blocks. According to sources, five fire engines and 30 firefighters were in attendance at the scene.

What happened?

The London Fire Brigade has issued the following statement on Twitter:

“Firefighters are tackling a fire in a restaurant on Vere Street, Marylebone, central London. The restaurant’s ducting (ventilation system) is alight – more to follow.”

According to The Sun, a description of the scene could be read as follows:

“Onlookers took photos of a firefighter trying to tackle the blaze just off Vere Street in the middle of the afternoon.”

“Thick smoke could be seen billowing over the West End streets where shoppers stopped to look at the fire, which began just before 4pm today.”

Places close to the fire included a Brazilian embassy and a Pret a Manger store on the other side.
