Guardiola was born in Santpedor, Barcelona, Catalonia, going on to attend the La Masia de Can Planes youth academy as a 13-year-old. Playing as a defender, he was incorporated into the senior team while 20-years-old, during the 1991–92 season.


1992-2006

Proving himself at a young age, Italian magazine Guerin Sportivo dubbed him the finest player in the world under the age of 21. Keeping his La Liga title for the next two seasons, Guardiola rose to the position of Barcelona captain in 1997. In 2001, Guardiola left the club, finishing with the final game of the season against Celta de Vigo. Following this, Guardiola played for Brescia and Roma, he also played for Al Ahli in Qatar. In 2006 he was recruited to play for the Mexican club, retiring as a player after six months.


2007-2012

After retiring as a player, Guardiola was chosen as Barcelona B administrator in 2007, eventually becoming the coach of the senior team. Towards the end of the 2011–12 season, Guardiola announced that he would leave the team, being succeeded by Tito Vilanova for the 2012–13 season. Staying with the team for four seasons, Guardiola became the first professional in soccer management genre to win six designations in a single season with only one team and the first coach in Barcelona history to outrun Real Madrid in El Clásico for five times. After this time, he took a sabbatical in New York City, coming third in place for the 2012 FIFA World Coach of the Year.


2013-Present

After a sabbatical period, Bayern Munich announced in early 2013 that Guardiola would become their manager for the 2013–14 season, staying with the team until the 2015–16 season. During the first season, his first trophy with Bayern was the 2013 UEFA Super Cup, later winning his third Club World Cup during the same season. For the 2016-2017 season, however, Guardiola signed on to a three-year contract, with the team’s first pre-season match being against his former team, Bayern Munich.
