Ohio Middle School Placed On Lockdown After Unidentified Student Shoots Himself In The Bathroom

A 7th-grade student shot himself inside Jackson Memorial Middle School in Jackson Township, Ohio. The unidentified 7th-grader was taken to a local hospital where his condition is unknown. The boy reportedly shot himself inside a boys’ bathroom.

All four of the district’s elementary schools will remain closed today. Currently, parents and other family members are gathering outside the school to be reunited with their children.

According to school officials, they are currently working on an orderly dismissal. Furthermore, local authorities said that the initial police presence was out of “an abundance of caution.”

There is no word on if the victim will be identified or what his condition is.

The Jackson Local School District released the following statement on Facebook:

A Jackson Memorial Middle School student suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning. Safety Services are on the scene at this time. The Middle School and High School are on lockdown at this time.

Students will be released to their parents in the near future. All four elementary schools will remain closed for today.

There is no word on if the shooting was on purpose or accidental. Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink said the student shot himself in a bathroom around 7:50 AM local time.

Jackson Memorial Middle School is located at 7355 Mudbrook St NW, Massillon, Ohio. The shooting at Jackson Memorial Middle School comes 6 days after the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
