Police and a bomb squad are investigating a “suspicious item” near the University of Oklahoma campus.

What happened?

The school’s emergency alert system notified students of a “law enforcement emergency” in the area of Oak Tree Avenue and 12 Avenue SE around 1:30 PM.

According to Sarah Jensen, the Norman Police Department public information officer, a suspicious item was found at an apartment complex in the area.

For the time being, a bomb squad has been called to investigate, so local residents and students are told to avoid the area.

UPDATE: Around 3:15 PM, officials announced that the issue had been resolved. The Norman Transcript gave the following message:

“OUPD sent out an alert at about 3:15 p.m. reporting the law enforcement emergency at near Oak Tree Ave and 12th Ave SE has been resolved.”

What is being said on social media?

The school’s official Twitter account has been providing updates to the story. Similarly, the Norman Police Department also confirmed that emergency crews are responding to the scene on social media, writing the following on their Twitter account:

“Norman Police are responding to a report of a suspicious object in the 3000 block of Oak Tree Avenue. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”

As this story is breaking, more information will be updated as made available.
